Will Louisville join the ranks of Consent Decree cities?
The LMPD Consent Decree Series, Post 3 - Will we lose even more police officers?
Louisville Metro is on a path to a court-enforced Consent Decree though it has not yet been negotiated.
Our Mayor and Police Chief with four other signees agreed in principle to this on March third of this year. The Agreement in Principle states that the Chief of Police “will retain full authority to run LMPD in accordance with law.” In other words, she will follow all the stipulations of the CD.
It is estimated that Louisville’s CD will cost from $8-10 million each year, but for how many years? Simple answer: Until we comply with all its demands. Seattle has operated under a CD since 2012 to the tune of $100 million.
Can we citizens prevent this Agreement from being negotiated? That is an ‘unknown’. Average citizens have great difficulty finding out the facts on this and so many matters. But we can say from experience that law and order are being destroyed, though not in the ways described in the DOJ Report.
Local media such as WHAS11 have reported— “People are calling for justice for those wronged by police.” Most people shown in that special news report are, hmmm, not conservatives.
The local media also report on terrifying criminal assaults, and there seems to be no progress made in resolving these sad situations.
We know there are an insignificant number of police who have not upheld the standards of the LMPD.
That cannot justify a CD that will tie the hands of responsible police and cost our city millions in bureaucratic programs. We do not want to live in a city where crime grows worse daily.
KOAT 7 Action News in Albuquerque, NM, reports: Violent crime skyrockets in cities who work with fed to curb police shootings
Target 7 (KOAT TV 7) has found that nearly all of the cities that reached settlement agreements or consent decrees with the DOJ during the same time as Albuquerque have seen double-digit increases in violent crime - crimes like murders, rapes and robberies. Cops are also leaving the departments.
“No, I am not shocked,” said Shaun Willoughby, president of the Albuquerque Police Officers’ Association. “Wherever the DOJ goes, crime goes up.”

The next three posts will cover three real-life scenarios that illustrate how the Rule of Law is overturned. It is not overturned by errant cops; it is deconstructed by leftists whose work is to bring America to her knees.
These posts will somewhat follow the pattern of the novella, A Christmas Carol.
We conservatives must view ourselves as Scrooge who is visited by three Ghosts, of the Past, Present and Future. We realize we are not misers, but the leftists (once called liberals) accuse us of being selfish and self-centered with respect to America and her social programs that comprise legal enforcements.
Conservatives may hold divergent opinions about various government programs, but we are united in our allegiance to the U.S. Constitution and the Rule of Law. Our dilemma is, these continue to be eroded, and how do we apply the brakes?
This is what we want to reflect upon as the Ghosts of Law-loss Past, Present and Future scare us to death, so that we are aroused from our disillusionment and discouragement to actively oppose the coming Consent Decree. It’s time to become generously politically involved.
