Weekend Special: St. Agnes graciously bows out
Protesters, politics and prayers at the Park
A Louisville vigil to memorialize deceased individuals who had harassed and maimed ICE agents in Minneapolis, was held on January 30. It was led by Senator (oops) Rep. Morgan McGarvey.
Several of the MAGA Grassroots Patriots, some shown above, came out to show appreciation for ICE. Their group is part of a network of conservative organizations at work in Louisville Metro to support President Trump’s agenda and to help elect like-minded candidates.
The vigil, held at Joe Creason Park, was originally scheduled to take place at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Remembering the recent protest at a Baptist church in Minneapolis, concerned citizens spoke out.
One stated he left a message for the clergy at St. Agnes. In his words:
“I told them on their answering machine that I lived in the area 13 years and loved going to the many events they had. I said, I am Protestant, but have many beloved family and friends that are Catholic, and I felt they would all be concerned about what McGarvey is doing tonight, and how it is inappropriate for a church. McGarvey pushes: 1) Murdering babies, 2) Encouraging illegals being brought into America when they have murdered 5,000 innocent citizens nationwide, and 3) Encouraging defunding ICE when we need police to protect Americans from the illegals who murder and commit other violent crimes. I closed by saying, ‘I am proud of all the love that St. Agnes has shown in Louisville for so long in past years, and God bless you for that.’”
A different stripe of protestants were speakers at the McGarvey event.
Their speeches can be heard in full on the Facebook video here. If you listen to the entire video, you will also hear Congressman McGarvey preach.
As well, McGarvey spoke, and conflated the words of America’s Declaration, ‘All men are created equal’ and have inalienable rights, with the illogical axiom that there are no illegal people (in so many words).
Dustin Reinstedler (below), president of the AFL-CIO in KY, stated in his speech that he had come because Alex Pretti, a nurse, was a union member. He said union members show up for each other, and that all at the the vigil would know what to do “when it comes down to it”— which seemed to encourage violence.
Four Louisville TV news outlets covered the vigil: WHAS, WDRB, WAVE and WLKY.
